THE GNT EGYPT EXPERIENCE

A 9-day adventure in the Land of the Pharaohs

The GnT Egypt Experience begins in Cairo with some of the earliest tombs and pyramids at Saqqara, a visit to the mysterious Serapeum, as well as the chance to go inside the Bent Pyramid. To give everyone a chance to meet each other and to recover from travelling, we shall meet a day earlier at a hotel in the general Giza/Saqqara area, then we can begin day one, refreshed and rested.

At the end of the first day, an evening flight will take you south to Luxor and the start of an unhurried journey of discovery through the one-time capital of the land of the Pharaohs and the extraordinary burial grounds of Ancient Egypt’s New Kingdom. You will visit some of the more interesting tombs and temples in the Luxor area, many of which are not on the general tourist itineraries. Drawing on his knowledge, resources and personal experiences from the past 13 years, your host will lead you on a fascinating exploration back in time.

You will walk the paths of not just kings and queens from the distant past, but also those of the nobility of the age, the men and women who held the reins of officialdom in the name of the Pharaoh, and the oft-forgotten workmen who laboured under extreme conditions to bring these massive undertakings to life.

After nearly a week in Luxor, an evening flight will take you back to Cairo ready for an early start, which begins with a visit to Egypt’s most famous landmark, the Giza Plateau, home to the Pyramids and the Sphinx, where you will have the opportunity to go inside the Great Pyramid, followed by an afternoon at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir. Your final day will be spent exploring the new Grand Egyptian Museum. You will then be driven to Cairo International Airport in time for your international departure.

Everything included in the tour itinerary is the ideal, best case scenario, however things can change and we will always do our best to make alternative plans if necessary.

The Egypt Experience entails a degree of walking, going up and down steps and stairs, nothing too strenuous. Nobody will be asked to do anything they are not comfortable with. As we are not tied down to coach times we can take as long as we wish, or change the itinerary if required. There are also rest spots everywhere. There will be plenty of time to relax in the evenings, and we will always stop for lunch, but generally the days are full days. We have organised minibus transport to take us to and from sites. All this transport is included in the price.

Moses and Akhenaten Brothers in Alms 2022 FCover

Ted Loukes is an independent researcher with a passion for ancient civilizations. His fascination with Ancient Egypt began when he was ten years old with a visit to the British Museum and the Treasures of Tutankhamun, a fascination that has stayed with him. After publishing his first book Moses and Akhenaten: Brothers in Alms, his passion for Egypt led to the creation of GnT Tours.

Forty Days in Egypt

Aimed at travellers interested in the ancient history of Egypt, GnT Tours runs small private tours to the Tombs and Temples of the sprawling necropolis on the West Bank, Luxor, burial place of many of the kings and queens from Egypt's New Kingdom, including Tutankhamun and Rameses the Great before returning to Cairo for a day at the GEM and much more. His book Forty Days in Egypt in the Time of Corona was a result of getting stranded as the world went into lockdown with Covid19

Throughout this ten day tour into ancient Egypt Ted proved to be genuine, friendly, warm, good humoured and an excellent organiser... Ted has an exceptional knowledge of ancient Egypt and made every visit to each pyramid, temple, tomb and museum interesting and an adventure... that revealed the wonders and mysteries of a fascinating world reaching back 4,500 years and more. This was an exceptional tour where there was never a dull moment. Fun and laughter was shared by all in abundance. Thank you Ted for making this adventure a truly memorable one.

It was truly a wonderful tour with friendly, helpful, and fun people to be with. I had a hoot. Now the glue that held it all together.Ted with his backup people. Ted the guy that we all came to depend upon. He sorted out problems, placated us, and kept us moving onwards in such a way that was always a pleasure. His humour was fun, and we all relaxed and responded accordingly. All in all, a wonderful experience

An amazing experience, well organised by our friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable leader. Accommodation in Luxor was in a lovely hotel overlooking the Nile River. A wide selection of temples, tombs, pyramids and museums in both Cairo and Luxor were visited.
Hilary2018
Anybody interested in seeing aspects of Luxor and other places on the tour that lots of other tourists have never seen should join GnT for the experience of a lifetime
Phil2020
A very enlightening, enjoyable and ultimately unforgettable experience.
Brett2018
Fantastic trip guys. met awesome people on the tour and got a real feel of Egypt. Luxor beats Cairo hands down! Although speed crawling up and down the steep inside of the Great Pyramid was a high of the tour
Jason2025
Our small group (which I joined solo) 10-day tour in Egypt with Ted was truly unforgettable. He didn’t just show us the iconic temples, tombs, and monuments, he brought ancient Egypt vividly to life through his storytelling and deep historical insight. Every day was filled with fascinating detail, interesting people, well-chosen sites and thoughtful touches that made it ‘an experience of a lifetime’ from start to finish. Ted has that rare gift of combining exceptional knowledge with genuine warmth and care, making every member of the group feel included and valued. I returned home having made new friends, more informed and profoundly inspired. A once in a lifetime journey I will never forget. Thank you Ted.

a pre compiled review does not do justice to Ted Loukes from GnT Tours. Besides Ted being an Admirable Guide he was also an organiser of note. From the Vehicular Taxi service , the boat taxi, the entrance tickets, the Egytian guides -- The Nile Hotel which became home from home, because of your relationship with the hotel staff and management, but to mention but a few of the Luxor experiences.... Ted thank you for a most memorable experience.
